More About Gold

Pure 24ct Gold is yellow and has always remained one of the most popular metal choices when it comes to gold jewellery, and looks particularily impressive on olive or darker skin tones.

With Pure 24ct Gold being a soft metal it is alloyed with other metals to make it stronger and more hard wearing for the jewellery industry. Yellow Gold in the UK is available in 9ct, 14ct 18ct and 22ct. The more alloys that are added to the Gold the lower the Carat. For example 18ct Gold is 18 parts Gold to 6 parts alloy so is 75% pure and is hallmarked 750. 9ct Gold is 9 parts Gold to 15 parts alloy which makes it 37.5% pure and is hallmarked 375. Mixing alloys of different proportions into the gold will give colours from Rose Gold to White Gold.

Gold is one of the easiest metals for jewellers to work with and can be used to create stunning jewellery designs without putting ant stress onto the metal. This makes it an ideal choice for rings that need to be sized at a later date. Because of its softness Gold will scratch with everday wear and so it is important to have your jewellery cleaned and polished on a regular basis to keep it looking as new as the day it was bought.
